The Coraline Experience

For this Project Jennifer was both the Art Director & a Costume Designer

The Coraline Experience was inspired by the immersive attraction Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Meow Wolf creates immersive and interactive experiences that transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of a story and an exploration. This includes art installations, video and music production, and extended reality content.

This project was structured as a “Call for Proposals/Bid” format: the owner of an unused facility is asking for firms to pitch their ideas to transform the space, and develope a new immersive experience. In this project the client/producer is the Sears Company and the space they were looking to develope was their empty store in South Coast Plaza, in Orange County, CA. Their idea for the space is to create an interactive, immersive, story telling environment based off of Neil Gaiman’s book, graphic novel, and animated movie Coraline.

The design faculty acting as our producers/clients, asked the students to create a design firm, and tasked them with creating a design presentation as a pitch for this experience. As clients they instructed us that they have many talents but entertainment is not one of them. Not only would they like to make money through this project but also have it encourage good will throughout the community. Our presentation must sell them on our idea, and make them trust our design firm enough to hire us to produce this idea.
